The Conference
Agricultural productivity, nutritional security and environmental sustainability require urgent and utmost scientific intervention at regional, national and international levels. It is also very essential to revolutionize all existing agricultural practices, food production, global warming and climate change to ensure food security through adequate nutrition, availability, accessibility and sustainable utilization. In this scenario, scientific community has an essential role in informing available modern ideas and synchronized strategic investments to establish sustainable agricultural production systems with reduced greenhouse gas emissions and to make the best possible use of existing resources with most suitable land management practices. With less natural resource base for agriculture, many countries may have to heavily rely on imports for guarantee food availability in near future. Hence, the first and foremost requisite is to reinvent regional, national and global capabilities for agricultural development and food production through modern approaches and innovative technologies fuelled with financial investments which can further result in increased agricultural productivity and food security. This can enormously help to improved nutrition and health to society. Modern technologies and new/novel potential foods help humanity in addressing the dual challenges of food and nutrition security and environmental sustainability. Incorporation of knowledge on modern technologies and practices of sustainable agriculture will ensure increased food production for nutritional security. And thus, this international conference will provide better forum for scientific deliberations and research collaborations on agricultural sciences and food technologies in order to achieve the most alarming millennium goals of increasing agricultural productivity, while ensuring nutritional security and environmental sustainability.

Additional Information

Location and Host
This international conference will be held in Bangalore, the capital of Indian State of Karnataka. Bangalore is the second fastest-growing major metropolis in India, known for its pleasant climate throughout the year and home to many educational and research institutions in India. Known as “Silicon Valley of India” because of its role as the nation’s leading information technology exporter. The city is well connected with several foreign countries by Kempegowda International Airport, about 40 km from the city centre. Taxis and air-conditioned Volvo buses operated to connect the airport with the city. There are four major railway stations in the city: Bangalore City junction, Bangalore Cantonment railway station, Yeshwantapur junction and Krishnarajapuram railway station. The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation is connecting Bangalore with other parts of Karnataka as well as other neighboring states. The main bus depot that KSRTC maintains is the Kempegowda Bus Station, locally known as “Majestic bus stand”, where most of the out station buses ply from.

University of Agricultural Sciences (Bangalore), a premier institution of agricultural education and research in the country, began as a small agricultural research farm in 1899. Later under the initiative of the Dewan of Mysore Sir M. Vishweshwaraiah, the Mysore Agriculture Residential School was established in 1913 at Hebbal which offered Licentiate in Agriculture and later offered a diploma programme in agriculture during 1920. The School was upgraded to Agriculture College and University of Agricultural Sciences (Bangalore) was inaugurated on August 21, 1964 by Vice President of India Zakir Hussain in the presence of Chester Bowles, United States Ambassador to India and S. Nijalingappa, Chief Minister of Karnataka. The university was recognized as the best agricultural university in India by Indian Council of Agricultural Research for which it was conferred the Sardar Patel Outstanding ICAR Institution Award for excellence in teaching, research and extension in 2001 and 2012. Symposium Publications (Edited Books and Journals)
A book of abstracts will be provided to accompany the international conference. Delegates will also receive a peer-reviewed book containing key scientific papers associated with the conference theme that will be published by Society for Applied Biotechnology in association with international scientific publishers based at USA, Canada and Bulgaria. Additionally, depending on the importance, originality, quality, relevance and other editorial considerations, a few selected research articles will be invited for publication in our international journals, Acta Biologica Indica, Biodiversity Research International and Eurasian Journal of Environmental Biology. Delegates presenting papers at the conference will be contacted directly by the Editors of the respective journals with information about the inclusion of a contribution after the conference.

Local Transportation and Accommodation
The conference venue, University of Agricultural Sciences (Bangalore) is situated close to the airport. The two campuses at Bangalore are located on the Bangalore-Hyderabad National Highway No. 7 with its Headquarters at Gandhi Krishi Vignana Kendra (popularly known as GKVK Campus) and Hebbal Campus. All the conference participants and others, who attend, need to make their own arrangements for local transportation (to/from/between) and accommodation as per their budget and convenience.
